About the Alternative Investment Center
In response to growing member demand for specific information and resources targeted to
Alternative Investments, Family Office Exchange (FOX) has developed the Alternative Investment
Center. Highlights of the AIC include:
- Targeted articles and whitepapers in the Library
- A directory of member Advisors, grouped according to their Alternative Investment area of focus
- A Glossary of Alternative Investment terms
What are alternative investments and why are they important to an investment strategy?
Investments that provide unique risk and return properties not found easily in traditional
stock or bond investments are often classified as alternative investments. Despite their
unique characteristics, alternative investments can be defined at a basic level by their
ability to utilize a wide array of trading techniques and employ leverage.
Although these investments do carry their own unique risks, there are many reasons
why suitable investors may decide to add alternative investments to their portfolio. Many
of these investment products have historically proven to have low correlation with overall
market activity. Investments such as these tend to be good candidates to aid portfolio
diversification.
While there is much debate over what can be considered an alternative investment, we have
identified 5 commonly accepted areas and have grouped our resources and information
accordingly.
